![]() ![]() ![]() After the action started was when I began checking the time, occasionally scrolling through Twitter, and other stuff lol. But the first half was definitely the most interesting (and genuinely great) part of the film. I get why Nicholas Cage's character was motivated to kill all those guys, I felt for him. The themes were really clicking, the cinematography was stunning yet intriguing, and the characters + situation + editing was so unorthodox that I had to give this film my full attention.īut then the movie, at least for me, drops a lot of the fascinating thematic + character stuff for an extended, hour-long action sequence. So that makes this movie one of the weird exceptions (for the most part), as up until the hour mark I was 100% invested in this film. I could be watching my favourite movie and have to pause like every 15 minutes unless it's goddamn gold. If I'm not watching a film in the theatre or in class, I have a hard time watching straight through, mainly due to my appalling attention span. But when their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with deadly fire. Let's just lay out the plot for the uninitiated set in the Pacific Northwest in 1983, outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. ![]()
